Rules and equipment: Padel tennis is that simple

You always play padel tennis in doubles, i.e. two against two. Padel tennis is also suitable for children aged 8 and over. A typical padel match lasts between 30 and 90 minutes. A regular padel match usually consists of two to a maximum of three sets.

The playing field for padel tennis measures 10×20 meters. The walls around it are around 3-4 meters high.

You use a special racket that is slightly rounder, shorter and wider than a tennis racket and has a solid hitting surface without strings. This makes the racket easy to handle overall. A special padel ball is also used, which is very similar to a tennis ball but slightly softer.

The game begins with the serve from the bottom. The service line must not be touched. The ball must first land on the opponent’s court and may then bounce off one or more side walls. A match usually ends after 2 sets have been won. You win a set if you win six games and have at least a two-game lead. If the score is 6:6, there is a tie-break.

FAQ - Padel tennis at Sportcentrum Nuremberg

Padel tennis is a racket sport that combines elements of tennis and squash. The special thing about padel tennis is that the side walls around the court are also played against, which makes the game very varied and versatile.

There are indeed special padel shoes for sale, but it is not necessary to buy them when starting out. However, it is important to choose high-quality sports shoes with very good support and fit, also to prevent injuries.

On average, a padel tennis match lasts between 30 minutes and 1.5 hours, depending on the number of sets (two or three) that are played. In the hobby sector, two sets are usually played.

Yes, you need a special padel racket, which is shorter, wider and rounder than a tennis racket, and a special padel ball, which is slightly softer than a tennis ball. You can hire both at the Sportcentrum Nürnberg.

Absolutely! Padel tennis is a very social and family-friendly game that can be played by people of all ages and abilities, from children (recommended from the age of 8) to senior citizens. Of course, you should always be in good health and seek medical advice if you have any physical limitations or cardiovascular issues.

Definitely. Depending on the intensity of the game, padel tennis challenges the whole body, both in terms of endurance and strength.

Padel tennis and pickleball are both return games that have some similarities, but also significant differences. The biggest difference: in padel tennis, the surrounding side walls are included in the game. The court is also larger in padel tennis (10x20m) than in pickleball (13.41×6.10m), and the shape, size and nature of the rackets and balls are also different.

Yes, padel tennis is considered easily accessible for beginners as the basic rules are simple and the playing technique is less complex than traditional tennis. The walls as an added dimension to the game can also make the game easier. If you already have experience with backstroke sports, it’s certainly twice as easy to get into the game.

Padel tennis and classical tennis offer very different playing experiences and challenges despite some similarities. In addition to the equipment and the size of the court, the following key differences can be described: Padel tennis is mainly played in doubles mode, and the use of walls is similar to that of squash, where the ball can be played on after bouncing off a wall.

In classic tennis, the game can be played in both singles and doubles, and the ball must be kept within the specific court boundaries without walls being involved in the game. The serving method also differs: In padel, the ball must be played below the waist and after a bounce on its own court, whereas in tennis the serve is executed overhead and without prior contact with the ground.
