Teqball: fair play, skill and creativity

Teqball is unique because it combines the technical aspects of soccer with the speed and dynamism of table tennis. It promotes fair play, skill and creativity while being an entertaining and challenging sport for players and spectators alike.

Similar to soccer, the ball is played with the foot, knee, head or chest instead of the usual table tennis bats. Teqball improves ball control and responsiveness. It’s no wonder that many soccer players, including professional soccer players, now play Teqball enthusiastically to improve their technical skills.

It’s also a lot of fun for beginners!

But Teqball is also suitable for non-soccer players and, above all, offers plenty of varied fun. At the Sportcentrum Nuremberg, we offer you Teqball on the high-class and innovative, design-award-winning (Red Dot Award) Teq table from the leading manufacturer. Of course, we also provide you with the matching soccer ball in the recommended size 5.

The Teqball fans in our team know their way around and will explain to you what is important when playing Teqball.

It’s all a question of shape!

The special shape of the Teq table with its characteristic curvature has been technically thought through down to the last detail. It contributes significantly to the character and attractiveness of the game. The curve ensures that the ball bounces back to the players, it influences the speed of the game and ensures a fast flow of play. Players have to react and move quickly to reach the ball, which makes the game exciting and full of energy.

Teqball rules and equipment

You can play Teqball in singles, doubles or with several players in a group. What you need: A professional Teq table, a soccer ball (size 5 is recommended) and at least one other player.

The ball is played with the head, chest, foot or knee. All other body parts, especially arms and hands, are taboo.

At the Sportcentrum Nuremberg you will find everything you need for a Teqball match: the Teqball table specially developed and patented for the sport, a standard size 5 soccer ball, a rectangular Teqball pitch measuring around 12 meters wide and 16 meters long. Ground markings also help with orientation on the pitch.

You have two attempts at the serve. After four serves you change.

The aim of teqball is, as with any other return game, to score more points than your opponent. The winner of a Teqball match is the player who has won at least two of the three sets. A set ends when 20 points are scored.

Points are scored when opposing players/teams make a mistake like this:

  • The ball touches the ground in your own half of the court.
  • The ball does not cross the net on the return.
  • The ball is touched more than once with the same part of the body before it is returned over the net (in doubles, the ball must be passed at least once between the team members before it is returned over the net, but there must be no more than three contacts with the ball before it is returned.
  • A player touches the ball with his hands or arms.
  • Table or opponents are touched.
  • A player or the team touches the Teqball table during the game.

The duration of the game depends on the constitution and playing style of the participants. On average, a match lasts around 45 minutes.

FAQ

Teqball is a ball sport that was originally invented by two Hungarian soccer fans. One of the first famous and self-confessed fans of teqball was the Brazilian soccer star Ronaldinho. In the meantime, international tournaments have been organized and the game is also being worked on for inclusion in the Olympics.

The fact that the game also has a lot to offer visually certainly contributes to the fact that fans are rapidly spreading the sport via social media and making it more and more popular.

The specially curved Teqball table makes for an unusual and particularly varied playing experience.  Participants hit or play a soccer ball over the net with their feet, head and chest and try to score points by bouncing the ball on the opposite side of the table so that the opponent cannot hit it back in accordance with the rules.

Teqball is suitable for people of all ages and abilities. The sport promotes physical activity without hard physical contact or high risk of injury. For children, we recommend starting at around 8 years of age.

The essential equipment for Teqball is the special Teqball table and a standardized soccer ball (usually size 5). You can find both at Sportcentrums Nuremberg. You don’t need any other special equipment, but comfortable sports clothing and sports shoes are recommended.

Teqball can be played in singles, doubles or in a group (as a round robin). The convertible table also allows individual training sessions.

Players may touch the ball with any part of their body except their hands and arms. The ball may only be touched once per body part before it is played over the net. A match is played in best-of-three sets, with a set being won as soon as one player or team reaches 12 points.

Teqball can not only be played in singles and doubles. Round robin variants in larger groups are also possible. Teqball with several participants could look like this: The players divide into two teams and take it in turns to position themselves around the Teqball table. One player hits the ball over the net and the player opposite has to return the ball. After each shot, the player moves to the end of their team’s queue. The team that is unable to return the ball in accordance with the rules loses a point. This promotes a fast and dynamic game in which all players are actively involved.

Playing Teqball regularly promotes ball control, the execution of precise shots and the development of creative moves. The curvature of the Teqball table ensures, among other things, that you always have to receive the ball in new and varied ways. This helps you to improve your technique in order to play the ball effectively.

To get started with Teqball, you simply need access to a Teqball table. At Sportcentrum Nuremberg you will find a professional, high-class Teqball table and excellent support from the Teqball fans in our team.

Book a Teqball table by phone, via our contact form or spontaneously on site at the Sportcentrum Nuremberg and simply tell us on which day, time and for how long you would like to reserve the table.

Telephone bookings via +49 (0) 911 544911.

SATURDAY: 8 a.m. – 10 p.m.

SUNDAY & HOLIDAY: 8 a.m. – 10 p.m.

The curvature ensures that the ball also makes unpredictable bounces and trajectories when it hits the table. This increases the challenge for players to control the ball and return it precisely using different parts of the body.

Yes, there are national and international Teqball competitions, including world championships. These tournaments attract players from all over the world and promote high-level competition. In 2022, the Teqball World Championship was held in Nuremberg.
