Tips for your squash equipment

Before buying squash equipment, it is advisable to seek advice from specialized dealers or experienced squash players to ensure that you choose the right equipment for your needs. You can also buy squash rackets and balls at our Sportcentrum Nuremberg.

A squash racket is specifically designed for the sport and differs from other tennis rackets in shape, weight and balance. It is important to choose a racket that suits your playing style and skills.

There are different types of squash balls with different speeds and bounce characteristics. Beginners can start with a slower ball and then work their way up to faster balls, depending on experience and fitness level.

Special squash shoes provide good support, cushioning and stability on the court. They have a non-marking sole so as not to damage the floor of the squash court.

Wearing safety glasses is recommended to protect the eyes from possible injuries caused by the ball or bat. Safety glasses are especially advisable during intense games or when playing with children.

Wear comfortable sportswear that allows freedom of movement. Breathable materials that wick away sweat are beneficial. Avoid wearing jewelry or other objects that could endanger you or other players.

Squash Nuremberg – FAQ

Squash is suitable for people who are looking for a fast, dynamic and physically demanding sport. It is well suited for people who enjoy intense competition and want to improve their endurance, strength, agility and coordination. People who like to get an effective workout in a short time will find squash a good option. People with joint problems or heart disease should consult with their doctor before starting the sport, as squash can put a lot of strain on the body. Pregnant women or people with acute injuries should avoid squash.

Squash is suitable for people of all ages. There is no set age limit for playing squash. Children can start playing squash at a young age as long as they have the physical and mental development to play the sport. However, it is advisable that children play under the guidance of an experienced coach who will teach proper technique and safety guidelines. Here at the Sportcentrum Nürnberg, children from the age of 6 can learn how to play squash under supervision as part of our “Multisports” children’s sports program.

Since the health of our athletes is particularly important to us, we use wooden sprung floors for the flooring because this type of flooring is particularly elastic and therefore healthier for the players. Joints and muscles are subjected to much less stress than on wooden floors, for example.

The duration of a squash match varies depending on the level and style of play. As a rule, squash matches are played as best-of-five sets, with each set going up to 9 or 11 points. The average duration of a match can range from 20 minutes to an hour, depending on the speed of play and the number of rallies.

To improve your strokes and technique in squash, it is advisable to practice regularly and work with an experienced coach. Technique drills, specific training of individual swings such as forehands, backhands or volleys, as well as playing against different opponents can help develop your skills. In addition, videos and tutorials online or in books can serve as useful resources to improve your understanding and technique.
